Get thee hence, Annus Horibilus
To paraphrase Queen Lizzie, 2007 shall not be a year back upon which I shall look with undiluted glee. Seems like much of it was a test of wills and wits, a heroic exercise in tolerance and patience after being lied to and deceived in big ways from multiple directions, butting heads with the IRS (they always win...), and facing up to the exhausting truth that, as the song says, 24 hours takes twice as long in LA.
Not all bad, of course. Did some traveling with bands, played some memorable shows, did some quality recording, got invited to the Cavern Club in Liverpool next May. I got a pretty good insight into who my real friends are and who can pretty much go jump in a lake, which is gold. Some of them had an impossibly difficult year also, and mutual complaining about things can be incredibly cathartic. Made some fun new friends too; playing in the Larry Bagby Band is a big fat laugh riot, and we're a good band. See you tonight at the Cat Club on Sunset Blvd. for a tremendous New Years Eve orgy of gluttony and vice, bookended by the wanton destruction of yet another hotel room nearby. I think it's the Hyatt.
